The Pink Graduation Gown Costume

The bunny suit gets all the attention, but the graduation scene is the one people quote. A pink cap and gown over satin heels, pearls and a hot pink bow is instantly readable, office-party safe, and easy to put on in five minutes.

A gown that goes on in five minutes

This costume is basically a robe and a hat. I say that with love. It zips up the front and goes over whatever you have on, so the outfit underneath is up to you and the weather.

Check the size chart on the listing, because graduation gowns are often sized by height instead of dress size, so go by what the chart says. If you are tall, size up so the sleeves do not stop halfway down your arm.

Under the gown, wear something thin. A fitted tank and bike shorts, a slip dress, or leggings if it is cold. The fabric is shiny and smooth, so a chunky sweater underneath makes it bunch at the shoulders. You will also get warm once the party gets going, and it is nice to unzip without flashing anybody.

Heels and pearls for the walk

The blush satin heels have a pointed toe and thin straps that cross over the top of the foot. They are the same soft pink as the gown, so your legs look a mile long. Check the size chart and read the fit notes on the listing. Pointed toes can pinch if you usually need a little extra room up front.

Heels on uneven ground need your full attention. Scuff the soles on concrete before the party so they are less slippery, and leave a pair of flats in the car. You can switch after the pictures and not one person will care.

The gold pearl drop earrings are a round pearl hanging from a small gold hoop. They are a quiet finish, and they keep the whole look from going full costume shop. Wear them again with a black dress to the next wedding and nobody will know where they started.

The hair bow and the clutch

The hot pink satin hair bows come as a two pack. That pop of hot pink against the soft pink satin is the detail people comment on. Put your hair half up, clip the bow at the back, then set the cap on top and pin it.

Bobby pins are your best friend with a graduation cap. Cross two on each side through the cap band and into your hair, or it will slide back every time you laugh. Soft waves or a blowout look great here. Pink lip, a little shimmer on the eyelids, and you are done.

The pink floral satin clutch is small, so check the dimensions on the listing before you count on your phone fitting inside. Lipstick, a card and a key are the safe plan. Everything else stays in the car.

Peonies, photos and a costume that behaves

The pink faux peony bouquets are the one thing in this look I would call a prop and still tell you to get. They come as a two pack. Walking in holding a bouquet makes the costume read in a second.

Fluff them before you go. Faux flowers come squished from shipping, so open each bloom with your fingers and bend the stems a little so they do not look like a straight line. Hand the second bouquet to a friend for photos, or put it in a vase at home afterward. It does not need water, which is my kind of flower.

It works at a house party, and your office break room works too. This costume is safe for a work party, easy to sit down in, and nobody needs it explained.

Anything in the photos that is not on the shopping list above is a styling extra, so use what you already own.
