The Pink Sequin Mini Dress Costume

The dress is loud on purpose

The hot pink sequin long sleeve mini dress has a square neckline, a ruched waistband, a ruffle at the hem and sheer balloon sleeves with elastic cuffs.

Sequin and glitter mesh fabric usually has less stretch than jersey, so read the size chart on the listing and measure your bust and waist. If you are between sizes, go with the bust. A mini also gets shorter when you sit, so try sitting on the edge of the bed in it before the party, not during.

The sheer sleeves are what make this dress feel a little dressier than a basic sequin mini. They add volume without heat, and they balance out a short hemline. If you want more coverage, sheer nude tights work and do not fight the sparkle. If you want less fuss, bare legs and the silver heels, like I did, and a jacket for the walk over.

Heels you can stand in all night

The silver glitter strappy kitten heels are low on purpose. A house party means standing for three hours on hardwood and probably a kitchen floor that is sticky by eleven. A kitten heel gets you the shine without the hobble. The straps wrap the foot, so they stay put on stairs.

Check the fit notes on the listing for whether they run small. Wear them around the house for an evening first, ideally while doing something boring like folding laundry, so you find out where they rub before it counts. Glitter straps can rub at the back of the heel, so stash a couple of blister bandages in the clutch. They weigh nothing and somebody always needs one.

Clutch, tassels and the second pair of sunglasses

The pink glitter sequin envelope clutch has a satin body, a glitter flap and a chain, so you can carry it in your hand like I am or wear it on your shoulder. It fits a phone, a lipstick and a card. Nothing more, so plan accordingly.

The hot pink layered tassel earrings have a glitter stud at the top and three tiers of tassel. With hair down in loose waves they swing out every time you turn your head. If you wear your hair up they get even louder, which I am not against.

The heart shaped sunglasses come in a pack of two. I wore one pair and put the other in my clutch. By ten o'clock a friend in a plain black costume was wearing them and asking where I got them. Bring the spare. Someone needs it.

Weather, makeup and the rest of the year

Those sheer sleeves are pretty and not warm. If you are walking to the party, wear a jacket or a longline blazer over it and leave it at the door. Makeup can go big here. Glossy pink lip, shimmer on the lids, maybe some body glitter on the collarbones if you are brave about cleanup.

The dress is not a one night thing. It works for a birthday, a bachelorette, New Year's Eve. If you already own silver heels or any sparkly clutch, use them and spend on the dress.
